Séance to Summon A Garden is a site specific, participatory event that brings visitors together to perform and record a piece of  music together.

For each instance of this ongoing project, I gather field recordings from the local environment. These sounds (the pulse of a hummingbird's wing, the calls of a yellow headed blackbird,  woodpeckers nesting, a plane flying overhead,  sprinklers at dawn...) are assembled into a series of independent, musical clips that can be played by participants in magical, unique combinations.

Using wireless headphones for an immersive experience, participants are guided through "instrument" selection, rehearsal, and performance. Each performance is recorded and published, creating a collaged, sonic portrait of local ecology.

Equal parts radio-drama, guided meditation, and high tech improvisatory orchestra, Séance to Summon a Garden is an exploration of the reparative power of listening, memory, and ecology.

Performances

The recordings are performed - start to finish - entirely by participants.
