The Adjacent Possible is a live, ONLINE theater experience. Using music, storytelling, improvisational performance, and technology the audience is transformed into an orchestra. The show culminates in the performance of a piece of music — the first and last ever to take place.

The show is an interactive and auditory feast, generously flavored with surprise and delight moments, and a blissful reprieve from the world. It is truly an experience like no other, a combination of old time radio drama, poetic guided meditation, and improvisational high tech orchestra”

The Adjacent Possible began as a series of physical performances but with the onset of the COVID-19 it has evolved into a virtual experience through a collaboration with Adam Brick and Adam Lucas. Participants log into a special site where they are met by “The Conductor” who guides them through the process of instrument selection, practice, rehearsal, and performance. Every composition is entirely created by participants and published on The Adjacent Possible website.

The Adjacent Possible has held over 70 performances with participants from six continents and over 35 countries.

Whereas most art experiences born of the pandemic are simply broadcasts in Zoom, The Adjacent Possible has been designed to take full advantage of the possibilities of a virtual environment. The experience uses immersive audio, thoughtful design, and interactive technology on a proprietary platform that draws participants into a new and unique landscape.

The result is an experience unlike any other; a combination of old-time radio drama, poetic guided meditation, and improvisational high-tech performance. Participants are often attending from all over the world and it is not unusual to have an ensemble from across Africa, the Americas,  Asia, and Europe playing in the same orchestra.

Each show is recorded, mastered and published shortly after the event which provides each participant with their own keepsake of their once-in-a-lifetime composition.
